Maria R. Capobianchi, past director of the Laboratory of Virology at the National Institute for Infectious Disease, Rome, is presently member of the Italian Health Council, and scientific advisor of Sacro Cuore Don Calabria Hospital I.R.C.C.S., Verona. With more than four decade-long expertise in basic and diagnostic virology, she is particularly skilled on emerging viral infections, and has served as an expert to public health organizations including ECDC, Italian Ministry of Health, National Transplant Center and National Blood Center. Research activity: viral pathogenesis, naturally/acquired antiviral immunity, molecular epidemiology of viruses, emerging/re-emerging viruses, design/validation of innovative diagnostic methods.
